Back in August, after his Serbian national team had been defeated in the Olympic gold-medal game by Team USA, center Nikola Jokic was beaming. “This is really cool,” he said, admiring his medal. “I mean, me and my teammates—I don’t know how many people have silver medals. Maybe 1,000 people in the world. So that’s a big thing.”
Barring injury or an unexpected drop in performance, Cousins could very well be hit with either a transition or franchise designation in 2018.
The franchise tag would cost almost $34 million — consuming roughly 19 percent of the room under a projected NFL cap of $180 million — but insure the Redskins retain Cousins’ rights. The transition tag stands at about $29 million but would allow Cousins to sign an offer sheet with another team (cough, 49ers, cough) that the Redskins then would have the right to match.
And knowing Snyder, why wouldn’t they, even if the NFL’s highest-paid passer (Oakland’s Derek Carr) currently averages $25 million a season?
It also should be noted that the Redskins made no plans to find an heir apparent for Cousins in 2018 when declining to select a quarterback in April’s draft. The Redskins continue to make moves designed to help them contend for a Lombardi Trophy now — understandable coming off two straight winning seasons with Cousins under center — rather than tearing down the roster with an eye on rebuilding toward the future, a la the 2016 Browns and 2017 Jets.
Likely, the only way this deal gets done is through a third team looking to unload a bad contract while sparing a first-rounder. It’ll be hard to piece that scenario together, but the Orioles Cheap Jerseys sides have NFL Jerseys Authentic 20 days to do it.
